13+ years spanning lithium-sulfur materials research, hypercar battery design, Tier 1 automotive engineering, and OEM programme leadership. Led the technical proposal that won the BMW i7 full-EV battery contract and secured a further BMW Group executive saloon programme at Rimac Technology.
I'm Łukasz Sołek — a battery systems engineer whose career spans the full depth of the energy storage value chain: from materials science and cell electrochemistry through to module and pack design, high-voltage system integration, and OEM programme leadership at the highest levels of the automotive industry.
My journey began at OXIS Energy (Culham Science Centre), where over five years I progressed from Metallurgist to Battery Production Engineer — working on Lithium-Sulfur technology, one of the most ambitious advanced battery chemistries ever developed. This foundation gave me first-principles depth in materials behaviour, electrochemistry, and cell manufacturing that most pack-level engineers simply don't have.
From there I moved through Jaguar Land Rover (Gaydon) and Williams Advanced Engineering (Grove, Oxfordshire) — contributing to BEV current carrier systems and the landmark Lotus Evija electric hypercar, before joining Rimac in 2020.
At Rimac I rose from Senior Battery Systems Engineer to Feasibility Engineering Manager — the role where technical depth meets commercial strategy. Over 5+ years I led engineering teams and personally authored proposals including the BMW i7 full-EV battery contract and a further BMW Group executive saloon battery programme — among the most significant business wins in Rimac's history.
Led the technical proposal that won this contract for Rimac — one of the most consequential business captures in the company's history as a battery Tier 1 supplier. The BMW i7 required a battery system meeting the extraordinary range, refinement, and reliability expectations of BMW's flagship luxury executive saloon. Challenges spanned packaging within a shared BEV/PHEV/ICE platform architecture, thermal performance across extreme ambient conditions, structural integration, and BMW Group's exacting validation and quality standards. Subsequently provided programme-level technical leadership through the engineering delivery phase.
Building on the engineering capital and OEM trust established through the i7 programme, I led the technical proposal that secured a further BMW Group battery contract for an executive saloon programme. This deepened Rimac's strategic partnership with BMW Group and further established its credentials as one of Europe's most capable independent battery Tier 1 suppliers. Programme details remain confidential.
Contributed to battery system design for the Lotus Evija — one of the world's most powerful electric hypercars, targeting over 2,000 hp. Also involved in the Adaptive Multi-Chem battery technology programme at Williams Advanced Engineering.
Across 5+ years at Rimac, contributed to multiple plug-in hybrid and hybrid battery programmes spanning different OEM customers and vehicle segments, at various stages from RFQ response and feasibility through to design freeze and pre-series validation.
Over five years at the frontier of advanced cell chemistry — from metallurgical analysis through materials research to prototype battery production. Lithium-Sulfur offers the potential to dramatically exceed lithium-ion energy density, and OXIS Energy was one of the world's leading organisations developing it commercially.
Whether you are an OEM, Tier 1 supplier, startup, or investor in the electrification space, I offer focused technical consultancy drawing on 13+ years at the frontier of battery engineering — from fundamental cell science to winning major OEM contracts.
Rapid, credible technical feasibility assessment of new battery programme opportunities — architecture selection, cost drivers, timeline risks, and make-vs-buy analysis. The discipline I lead full-time at Rimac.
